"Psychopharmacology Update"

This introductory presentation covers a brief overview of medical psychology and how this practice works using case studies. Within that approach, there is a specific focus on general concerns, how medical psychology has been added to traditional psychology practices, pragmatics of the day to day practice of medical psychology, the benefits and difficulties of adding medical psychology from the perspective of a medical psychologist. Additionally, case studies will be used to describe how medical psychology works for patients.

 

Learning Objectives: 

 

Persons attending this workshop will be able to:

  1. Describe the history of the medical psychologist movement
  2. Identify added benefits and difficulties in the practice of medical psychology
  3. Describe the pragmatics of how medical psychology works.
  4. Identify how medical psychology can be added standard psychology practices.
About the Presenter: 
 
James Underhill, Psy.D., M.P. is a Texas native who has been a licensed psychologist in the state of Texas for 8 years. He entered into the practice of medical psychology in 2015. Dr. Underhill is the current head of the psychology department for Austin Lakes Hospital, and previous head of psychology for Rock Springs Hospital. He maintains a research position through the Seton, funded by St. Jude’s. He is currently in private practice in Austin, TX where he focuses upon forensics and rehabilitative neuropsychology. Additionally, he has a part time practice in southern Louisiana where he focuses upon medical psychology. His work in healthcare costs has been used by the US Congress.

Meeting Location and Parking: 

The meeting will take place at the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center (1900 University Avenue, Austin, TX 78705). The CAPA meeting room will be on the second floor overlooking the restaurant and is glassed in. Go through the restaurant and take a right to the stairs to the second floor, to Meeting Rooms 1 and 2 or go to the end of the buffet line and then take the elevator to the second floor and the meeting room is right there. You can also access the new meeting rooms 1 and 2 via the "grand stairway” to the second floor and going past the length of the restaurant on the floor below.   

There is a parking garage in the hotel, or you can use metered street parking if you prefer. 

Cancellations: Cancellations must be received no later than 3 business days prior to the event in order for a refund to be processed. Cancellations received after that time will have a refund processed.

Please note online registration will close at 5pm on the Thursday prior to the meeting. In order to expedite certificate distribution following monthly meetings, we request that you pre-pay online no later than noon on the Thursday before the meeting. If you prefer to register by check, please mail your payment to CAPA @ PO Box 1448, Cedar Park, TX 78630 postmarked no later than the Monday prior to the meeting. Those who pre-register as noted will receive expedited PD certificate distribution. On-site registrants will be processed within 7 business days. All PD certificates will be emailed to signed in attendees.
